Last Friday at the Hi-Fi was absolutely fabulous. We were entertained by three heavy-hitting local bands and a band from Venezuela, Zeta. This band was so good, I am still trying to come to grips with it. Spiller, Childspeak, and The Critical Shakes are so damn good on their own. Adding this band to the show must have been a no-brainer.
Spiller, is one of those great local bands I never get to see. They are so tight, and have some jazz tucked into their repertoire. They pull that card when you least expect it. These guys are so freaking good.
Childspeak, is also one of my favorite bands. I’ve covered a bunch of their shows over the last couple of years. They are not a not so typical prog-rock band. See more posts here.
Zeta is one of the best touring bands I’ve ever seen in town. There is so much energy in these guys. Their sound is just so tight, they know each other so well. This is a very dynamic band. It turns out Childspeak’s engineer for their new album, Marcel is close friends with the band them. I guess that’s how they got on this bill. I’m stoked I made it to the show, I had to juggle some life things around. It was the right thing to do.
The Critical Shakes, I never get tired of this band. They are a two-piece setup, they are loud and fast, and hard. Davey and Jordan sync up on every song. Seeing these guys live is something you just have to do. They are fantastic. Two of the nicest guys you could ever meet.
