Tatas for Toys, A Benefit for the Kids at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

This was my third year working this event, and it is a real treat. My good friends Aaron Ross and Toxic put together a wonderful event to raise money to buy toys for children that are in the hospital at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. This is the eighth year for the event. The gang raised $6,700 this year, it was a new record!

The Show

This event is loosely based on Aaron’s variety show, Who’s the Ross?. It opens up with Rob Ems introducing Aaron, he does a monologue and gives a run down of the upcoming show, tells a few jokes, and gets the crowd warmed up.

This year’s show wasn’t much different. The show had the 12 Baes of Christmas and the North Pole Dancers. Bocha also took the stage and really crushed it. The dancers put on a variety of amazing themed sets. There were plenty of great auctions for all kinds of fun stuff that generous sponsors had donated. Everything from New Belgium beer to Jim Beam to weed from Nectar Cannabis. Oh, and a lot of doughnuts from Voodoo Doughnuts.

I got into volunteering for this show back in 2014 when I was photographing the Who’s the Ross? show. It’s not an easy event to document. There are a lot of people to chase around and lots of different sets, and these guys work so hard to get this thing of the ground. There’s a lot of moving parts to keep track of. This year was special because time just flew by. It was great.

This event had gained a lot of traction and popularity, so it would be easy for them to bring in a photographer with a bigger social profile and a lot more swagger, but I look forward to photographing a lot more of these fundraisers.

Merry Christmas!

The Side Stage Photos.

I set up a strobe and a softbox on the side of the stage. This is where are the fun happens.

Aaron posted a great recap here with some of my pictures of the live show.
