Tonight’s show should have been a little better attended for a Saturday night. The crowd was cool though and everybody was there to see some killer music.
Maci LeBlanc was the opening act. She had a great set and her two band mates are solid musicians. The second band, Breakfast Boys Leisure League was a hip-hop act. The set started out with a rapper wearing a hoodie over a ski mask. My first thought, it’s a little contrived but it turned out it was a part of a ‘bit’, so I could let that go. They were fun to see. It’s my understanding that they often play with a backing band. Now that’s something I want to see. The crowd that stuck around for the last act was treated to a great show. It well worth the price of admission. Connor and My Friends, with members from Purple Frankie, Connor O’Shea, and Spiller. Absolutely brilliant musicians, and we’re lucky to have these guys around.
The sound was fantastic tonight. For the most part, the sound is always amazing there. Considering the three acts could not be more different in style and genre. Typically, I’ll go to a show to see local bands and the bands on the bill will tend to have the similar styles. I liked the format of three bands of different styles. I just don’t like the title, ‘Locals Showcase.’ I don’t know why, I just think it’s weird.
